Maps
I have done my best to collect all the old maps of the AT&T long distance system that I can find. Some of these are tricky to find these days. I am always interested in hearing about more maps, should you find any.
I often rehost maps here if I am concerned that the source will go offline, but if the source seems stable (like a library or other institution) I will link to the original source. Another note is that, for historic reasons (mostly having to do with where the telephone lines historically were), telephone maps of the northeast are relatively very easy to come by. Well, I live in the west, so I tend to only hang onto maps that are either nationwide or depict any of the western part of the country specifically.
Pre-WWII
- AT&T long distance lines as of 1910 - these would have been analogue lines with loading coils.
Microwave and Coaxial
- 1966 map of microwave links, western US - it's unclear why particular routes on this map have been scribbled over in black ink. via Albert LaFrance.
Military Systems
- L-3I network
- 1975 illustration - small and poor quality, but the only map I've so far found with geographically accurate lines! via Mark Foster.
- 1972 diagrammatic map - much better quality and includes more types of links, but lines are always straight between points, not geographic. via Mark Foster.
