Northwest of Tropicana and Koval
Just north of McCarran International Airport and a couple blocks east of the strip is a 50-some acre dirt expanse along Tropicana.
Up to 2004, this most of this area contained a set of mobile home parks. However, the farthest west portion, an 8 acre parcel, appears from satellite imagery to have never been developed at all.In January of 2006 demolition of the full set of trailer parks seems to have been in progress.
The whole area is now owned by the board of regents of UNLV. While I can't find any direct evidence, it seems an obvious supposition that they are holding the land for possible future expansion of the campus, since it is nearly adjacent to the existing university stadiums.
